ABOUT THE MARTINEZ ATHLETIC CLUB

The Martinez Athletic Club, affectionately known as the MAC, offers sweat sessions that people love, whether it’s a Spin class, Bootcamp, Pilates or yoga. Opened in March 2015  by owner, Ben Borsellino, the MAC has already garnered attention for the specialized dynamic workouts, personal attention, and strong customer service. The MAC has been recognized as the "Best Gym / Sports Club, Best Cycling Studio, Best Bootcamp, and Best Personal Trainer" by Diablo Magazine's Best of the East Bay 2024. It has also been recognized as “Best Fitness Club” by Bay Area News Corps’ Best in East Bay 2015 and 2016, as well as "Best Yoga" in 2016; and voted as the "Favorite Gym, Favorite Bootcamp, Favorite Yoga Class, and Favorite Pilates Class" by Community Focus 2015. The MAC was selected as a Best of the East Bay 2016 Diablo Magazine Winner for their innovative "Bridal Bootcamp".

MAC clients will say that beyond the energizing workouts, the support system and community atmosphere sets the Martinez Athletic Club apart.  Unlike traditional chain gyms that sell a membership to a customer and then leaves the customer to their own devices, the MAC provides continuous support to their clients after the membership contract is signed.

Ben, an AFAA certified personal trainer, entered the fitness industry 15 years ago because of his strong desire to help others. Ben has taught small group fitness, trained clients ranging in ages 12-76 years old, and managed gyms both big and small. After managing a gym for five years, he missed the personal connection of helping others and felt that traditional chain gyms lacked a sense of community and support that would help people find the results they desperately wanted. Thus, the MAC was born.

Ben is not only the owner but personally teaches Spin and Bootcamp classes. He keeps class size small and makes sure to connect with every client, whether it is through correcting form or asking them how their day was.  Unlike a traditional large fitness class, clients receive individual education and attention. This hands-on approach makes clients feel they have access to their own personal trainer without the high cost often associated with personal training.

A traditional chain gym may have more square footage than this small club but the MAC more than makes up for its small size with its superior customer service. Whether it’s someone who has been a member of the MAC since day one or someone visiting on a guest pass, everyone feels the community atmosphere at this fitness club.

See you at the MAC!
